Early Start

We begin the day early in the morning after breakfast. First, we descend for about 1 hour to the Apurímac River, reaching a place known as Playa Rosalina.

After crossing the river, we start the ascent to Santa Rosa, a demanding climb that takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. This section requires strong physical effort, so we aim to hike before the sun becomes intense, taking advantage of the morning shade.

Ascent to Marampata

After a short rest, we continue ascending for another 3.5 hours until reaching the village of Marampata. Upon arrival, we enjoy lunch and have the afternoon free to rest and recover.

Marampata is a charming Andean village and, if weather conditions allow, offers beautiful sunset views over the canyon.

DAY 3Maranpata - Choquequirao - Marampata

DAY 03: Full Day Exploration of Choquequirao – Return to Marampata

This is one of the most important days of the trek, as we dedicate the entire day to exploring the Choquequirao Archaeological Park, one of the largest and most impressive Inca sites in Peru.

After an early breakfast, we begin a relaxed hike of approximately 2 hours (4 km) from Marampata to Choquequirao, arriving between 7:00 and 8:00 am. Thanks to the slow-paced itinerary, we have ample time to explore the main sectors of the site, including plazas, temples, ceremonial terraces, and panoramic viewpoints. Choquequirao is considered even larger than Machu Picchu, and its remote location makes the visit especially rewarding.

At midday, our muleteer brings a box lunch, which we enjoy inside the archaeological complex while taking in the surrounding scenery. After lunch, we continue exploring Choquequirao at a comfortable pace, allowing time for photos, rest, and deeper interpretation with the guide.

In the afternoon, we begin our return hike back to Marampata, where we enjoy dinner and spend the night, surrounded by peaceful mountain views and Andean landscapes.

DAY 04: Marampata – Playa Rosalina – Chiquisca – Cocamasana

After an early breakfast in Marampata, we begin our return trek, descending gradually through scenic landscapes toward the Apurímac River. This day is planned at a steady and comfortable pace, allowing time to rest, hydrate, and enjoy the impressive views of the canyon.

We descend to Playa Rosalina, where we cross the Apurímac River before continuing the hike uphill to Chiquisca. Here, we stop to enjoy a well-deserved lunch, prepared with the support of local families who manage services along the route.

After lunch in Chiquisca, we continue the afternoon hike along a quieter section of the trail, ascending gradually to the Cocamasana campsite, surrounded by warm weather and Andean vegetation. Upon arrival, we set up camp, enjoy dinner, and rest after a rewarding day on the trail.
